News - Conference Announcement – “Women’s Empowerment Principles: Equality Means Business – Serbian Companies Leading the Way”, March 7th 2012

The Conference titled "Women's Empowerment Principles: Equality Means Business - Serbian Companies Leading the Way", supported by the United Nation Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Global Compact, will take place on March 7th 2012.

The goal of the Conference is to promote the Women's Empowerment Principles, which are a set of Principles for business offering guidance on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community. Subtitled Equality Means Business, the Principles emphasize the business case for corporate action to promote gender equality and women's empowerment and are informed by real-life business practices and input gathered from across the globe. 

The aim is to establish a network of businesses that demonstrate leadership and commitment to gender equality in their practices, both internally towards their employees, and externally - in dealings with partners, suppliers, clients and the community. These businesses should serve as an example and inspiration for others to follow.

The conference will be opened by senior officials of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and representatives of United Nations, where once again will be emphasize Serbia's commitment to gender equality, while among the speakers are expected to be representatives of public institutions, international organizations and private sector. As a closure of a ceremonial part of the Conference, the Declaration of Women's Empowerment Principles will be signed by prominent companies in Serbia.
