December 7, 2011

The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia has published the third publication "Women and Men in the Republic of Serbia" (2011), with the support of UN Women (UN Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women).

This publication manages for the third time to collect and publish in one place sex-disaggregated data from different statistical areas. Apart from regular statistical surveys, it also includes data from the Survey on the Use of Public Services and Public Integrity, the How Do You Live survey and the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS). This publication presents the results of the first ever Time Use Survey conducted in Serbia, as well as maps with selected data by administrative areas.

In addition to official statistical data, data from other sources has been included, such as the Institute of Public Health of Serbia, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry of Interior, the National Employment Service, the National Institute of Social Welfare, UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), and others.

This publication is a result of the review of the needs of data users for monitoring the situation in society and gender relations through statistical data. Its intention is to enable, with the help of statistical data, the creation and implementation of policies aimed at eliminating inequalities and promoting equal opportunities.

The presentation will take place at 12 p.m, on 12 December 2011, at the Danas Conference Center, Vladimira Popovica 38-40/III, GTC Avenija 19, Belgrade. The speakers will be Mr. Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg, Ambassador of Norway, Ms. Asya Varbanova, Head of the UN Women office in Serbia and Mr. Dragan Vukmirovic, Director of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia.
